LSU Sophomore Gymnasts Kailin Chio and Lexi Zeiss spoke to reporters following their loss to the No. 1 ranked Oklahoma Sooners.
“It was a boost of confidence for us just being on the road that strong.” commented the standout Sophomore when questioned on how the team plans to move forward with the SEC tournament rapidly approaching.
Though the Tigers ultimately fell short, they did achieve their highest team score of the season with a 197.925. Sophomore all-arounder Kailin Chio also achieved two perfect tens on both vault and beam. These marked the fourth perfect ten Chio has received in seven meets so far.
“We’re just really proud of going on the road and putting up that score,” said Chio when asked on how the team feels following their performance.
Chio also managed a 39.850 in the all around which is the highest all around score in program history while on the road.
Due to last minute injuries and lineup changes, Sophomore Lexi Zeiss stepped up to take over the anchor spot on the floor in place of Kaliya Lincoln. Lincoln suffered a minor injury that caused the last minute substitution.
Zeiss managed a career high of 9.925 in her floor anchor debut.
“It was a dream and has been something that I’ve been wanting to do for a long time,” spoke Zeiss when asked about her performance.
The Tumbling Tigers are looking to add to this momentum as they head into this week with two meets within 48 hours. The Tigers will face off against the No. 3 Crimson Tide for another ranked SEC matchup.
Tiger fans can catch LSU back in action for alumni night, Friday February 27 in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center and SEC Network.
