Catcher Omar Serna Jr. and Pitcher Zac Cowan speak to the media ahead of their matchup against the Oklahoma Sooners. The Tigers are coming off a 7-1 victory against Grambling State this past Tuesday.
Serna Jr. has seen some improvement at the plate and it shows as his starts have gone up. Serna Jr. said he’s seeing the ball better at the plate.
“Sticking to my plan is a big thing,” Serna Jr. said. “Not getting out of my plan and not thinking, ‘Oh, I’m just going to hit everything out,’”
After starting the season ranked as the number two team in the country, the Tigers are currently unranked, but for Cowan and the rest of the team, it’s business as usual.
“It doesnt really mean anything to us, it’s probably more cool to the outside people than it is us,” Cowan said. “We kind of just try to focus on the things that makes us good and will help us win baseball games.”
LSU Baseball might be facing some adversity right now, but Cowan is not phased because he has faced adversity before with the team last year. The team as a whole is staying strong to get through the long season.
“The vibes, the morale around the team right now, they’re really good,” Cowan said. “Never lose faith in each other, always support each other.”
The Tigers kick off their series against Oklahoma this Thursday, March 19, at 7 p.m. CT inside Alex Box Stadium.
