In an early week matchup, the LSU Tigers defeated the LA Tech Bulldogs 9-0 in Tiger Park. LSU is now on a three-game winning streak, following their previous two-game wins against South Carolina last weekend. This was a huge match for LSU as Head Coach Beth Torina achieved her 600th win with the Tigers.
The Tigers had strong hitting in this game, starting off strong with three batters hit and got on base. Jalia Lassiter, as in the lead off spot, hit a base hit single to center field and shortly after, Sierra Daniel singled on a bunt to third base.
The third batter in the lineup, Tori Edwards hit a single up the middle, but made it to second base on the throw, allowing Jalia Lassiter to score LSU’s first run of the night. As the game continued, Kylee Edwards was walked and Char Lorenz brought Tori Edwards in after a fly to left field.
Alix Franklin was able to score after a double to left field by Destiny Harris. This is when LA Tech decided they would have their first pitcher change of the night, subbing in Ruby Fidge for starting pitcher Laney Johnson.
LSU did not allow many hits from the beginning for LA tech, causing the first inning to end with the score of 4-0. LSU pitcher Cali Deal had more than five strikeouts ending the top of the second inning.
Though LSU had a strong presence at the plate during the game, it wasn’t until the bottom of the second inning starting back at the top of the lineup where the game got more exciting for the Tigers. Jalia Lassiter stepped up to the plate hitting her fourth home run of the season to left field.
One batter later, Tori Edwards scored her sixth home run of the season to left center, making the score 6-0. Alix Franklin was walked, and LA Tech had their third pitcher of the night, Byannah Campos, sub in for Ruby Fidge.
The first batter Campos pitched to Kyler Edwards who then hit her third home run of the season and the third home run of the night for LSU.
After the outstanding inning, LSU made a few slight changes to their lineup, switching batters and their outfield slightly. The last pitcher of the night for LSU was Ashlin Mowery, who ended the game with a strikeout.
The game ended in the fifth inning after LA Tech was run ruled 9-0.
The LSU Tigers will play their next game Friday, March 27, against the Oklahoma Sooners in Tiger Park at 6 p.m. in a three-game series.
