LSU Baseball defeated the Kentucky Wildcats to close out the rubber match with a Tiger win; Sunday night’s win marked the first series victory for the Tigers of the season.
Due to some troubles in the Bullpen, the Tigers were not able to gain momentum until the top of the 4th.
Head Coach Jay Johnson credited his team by sharing, “Even down 7-0, our players were confident they were going to come back in this game…I’m very proud of the way they competed; they gave their all throughout the game and earned a great victory.”
It wasn’t until a Grand Slam by Outfielder John Pearson that finally put some runs on the board for LSU, building the team’s confidence. This served as a turnaround point for the Tigers as they managed 6 runs to shorten the Wildcat lead to a single run.
Coach Johnson spoke to about the toughness of playing in the SEC.
“They make it hard man, they’re not coming in here like, it’s LSU so we’re going to give it to them that’s not how this thing goes. If you don’t throw punches back…you’re going to lose.”
Kentucky was then able to extend their lead 10-6 but that ultimately was not enough, as the Tigers were able to score 11 home-runs in their final 4 at-bats to show the Wildcats which big cat runs the jungle.
The game took an emotional turn after a home run celebration by Seth DarDar that nearly ended in a players and coaches ejection.
Sunday’s win marked LSU’s largest since May of 2024 and the 4th win in conference play for the Tigers.
LSU will begin the week by hosting the Southern Jaguars Tuesday in Alex Box, then will hit the road to Rocky Top to begin the next SEC series against the Tennessee Volunteers.
