Flau’jae Johnson, former star guard for the LSU Tigers women’s basketball and rising rapper, was awarded the key to the city by Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sid Edwards on Saturday, April 4th.
Johnson was recognized for both her impact on the court and her dedication to community service across Baton Rouge.
When asked about her future relations with Baton Rouge, Johnson emphasized her continued connection to LSU and the community.
“I’ll just continue to support the community. I’m an alumna now, so I’m definitely going to support the Tigers every chance I get,” Johnson said.
Johnson also spoke about the importance of inspiring others–especially young girls.
“There’s nothing better than inspiration,” Johnson stated. “My goal is to aspire to inspire before you expire. That’s what my purpose in life is. I’m thankful these young girls can see someone and think, ‘Wow, I can do that too.’”
For Johnson, the grind never stops as she is already preparing and continuously training for her future pro basketball career.
“It’s like you right into it. You know what I mean,” Johsnon said. “I’m doing a lot of workouts and training. Trying to get ready for training camp. So, I’m excited, though I don’t have any expectations…But it’s a blessing that I get to continue playing basketball, be a pro, and still put LSU on the map for sure. I’m going to be representing my whole career.”
When she returns to Baton Rouge, Johnson says fans can expect to see her supporting her former team — and enjoying some of her favorite local food.
“Y’all know I love Fiery Crab and some crawfish,” Johnson said. “I’ll be back for the games, I’ll be back. It’s not a goodbye. It’s just a ‘see you later’.”
As Flau’jae Johnson begins the next chapter of her career, her impact on Baton Rouge extends far beyond basketball. From her success on the court to her influence in the community, Johnson leaves behind a legacy of inspiration.
