LSU Baseball hosted the Demons of Northwestern State for a Tuesday night Louisiana showdown in Alex Box Stadium.
Both teams took the field with something to prove after both coming off a rough weekend of losses.
Despite falling short to the Demons 13-3 during last year’s season, LSU was able to find their momentum and bounce back to secure the victory 4-2.
Tuesday night’s win now shifts the Tigers to 23-15 overall and 6-9 in conference gameplay, while Northwestern State falls to 23-14.
Starting out the night in the bullpen for the Tigers was Zac Cowan, who recorded a 3.60 ERA after pitching just two innings.
To kickstart the pitching mound for the Demons, Baton Rouge native Wesly Marien stepped up with high expectations while returning to his hometown. Wesley finished the night with a 3.1 ERA after three total innings pitched.
Key hitters of the matchup for LSU were Jake Brown and Brayden Simpson, who both had monumental home runs, providing the Tigers with the lead as well as a much-needed confidence boost.
Simpson’s home run came late in the third inning after a hit to center field. The game remained tied 1-1 until a monster hit to right field out of nowhere by Jake Brown that sent both runners Derek Curiel and Cade Arrembide to home plate to add some much-needed points for LSU to the board.
The Fighting Tigers are set to host the Texas A&M Aggies for their next SEC series beginning Friday, April 17. This weekend’s series will mark the sixth SEC series for LSU and the first pitch is set for 6 p.m. in Baton Rouge.
