Meet Ginger Guttner, the creative mind behind our beloved mascot at LSU.
“For me one of the biggest struggles is trying to make Mike not sound like a girl. So for example, one of the first kind of fun post that I did was ‘do the stripes make me look fat’ which is kind of a girl thing to say not a boy thing, so I try to be cognizant of that and I think it’s just important to make him playful and fun,” said Guttner.
While running Mike’s social media is fun and rewarding, Guttner also has to commonly deal with hate on Mike’s posts.
“There are people that don’t think we should have a tiger at all. They think that it’s cruel and inhuman to have a tiger in captivity and I think it would be great if all Tigers could live in the wild, but that’s not possible. LSU really does try to provide a good home for a tiger that needs it,” said Guttner.
Guttner also said it is important to keep her posts about Mike relevant to worldly events as well as cautions in posting playful posts during serious times.
