Brian Kelly met with the media Wednesday to discuss all things Spring Practice.
The team added a new face to it’s defensive coaching staff, Former defensive tackle, Kyle Williams. Williams won a National Championship with the Tigers and spent 13 years with the Buffalo Bills. Kelly says Williams’ resume is dense and brings a lot to the table.
“He’s a quality individual, high character, great husband and father, somebody that really is who you want recruiting student athletes here,” Kelly said. “So he just brings all these things to the table and I’m really excited about his addition to our staff.”
The return of Garrett Nussmeier fans are looking to see what he will do this season. Nuss is not working alone. With the addition of guys like Barion Brown and Nic Anderson, and older guys like Aaron Anderson and Chris Hilton Jr he has a lot of tools in his belt.
But as he continues through the Spring, Kelly says he is developing and ready.
“I think what we’ll see is a quarterback that comes through the spring,” Kelly said. “Who feels very confident with the options they have and he has a number of different options.”
With the loss of four of the five starting Offensive Linemen, there have been questions lingering about this young offensive line. But Kelly says they’ve been gone for quite some time now and they are ready to work with these new guys.
“Well we like to say we lost them after the Oklahoma game,” Kelly said. “So these new guys, they’re going to be really good SEC players, the bar is pretty high, but I think there’s enough experience with young players that we’re going to put together a really good offensive line.”
The team is gearing up and getting ready for their season opener against Clemson on August 30th.
