LSU Football Head Coach Brian Kelly spoke with the media after the teams fifth spring practice.
Kelly will be entering his fourth season with the Tigers in 2025, bringing in 16 transfers in the offseason. Kelly believes the culture of the existing LSU team is what allowed them to being in such a large number of new faces.
“You can’t just have a massive turnover without solid infrastructure,” Kelly said.
“There has to be a culture that can stand bringing in new people,”.
“These guys are here to win a championship…they take their craft seriously, they go to work, it’s fun,” Kelly said.
One of the most talked about aspects of Kelly’s 2025 squad has been the Runningback room. Filled by sophomore Caden Durham, junior Kaleb Jackson and five-star freshman Harlem Berry, the room has depth all around. Kelly spoke highly of all three of his ball-carriers and their improvements.
“Kaleb struggled last year with his size and volume and he’s been great this year,” Kelly said of his junior. The 6’0, 225 lb Baton Rouge native saw action in all 13 games last season, rushing 44 times for 150 yards.
“Caden is healthy… spring for him is about getting looks for him,” Kelly said of sophomore standout Durham. Last season, Durham earned the freshman All-SEC title. He appeared in 12 games and had a season high of 128 yards against South Alabama.
“Harlem is a young, talented back,” Kelly said of true freshman Harlem Berry. Hailing from New Orleans, Berry found himself as the top-rated running back prospect of the class of 2025. Berry topped the 2,000-yards rushing mark in all four years of his high-school career.
Coach Kelly is optimistic about the season and the upcoming spring game, which will see some changes from year’s past.
Kelly says this year’s intersquad scrimmage will include more scripted situations to play, including third-down, red-zone and special teams plays. When asked about the change, Kelly spoke about wanting to get more reps in for everybody.
“We haven’t gotten enough special teams work in those games…we wanted to include a bigger piece,” Kelly said.
“We want to give all of our players an opportunity to get reps,” Kelly said.
The spring scrimmage will be on April 12th. The game will be open to fans and LSU students to get to see all of their favorite players back in the purple and gold in Tiger Stadium. There will be an autograph opportunity following the game.
