LSU Baseball shut out Coastal Carolina 1-0 in Game One of the College World Series Finals.
Ace Pitcher, Kade Anderson threw over 20 pitches in the first inning and it looked like Coastal Carolina’s patient at bats were going to run him out of the game quickly.
“That’s been on the regular, every game one of the entire season. So I’m glad he did that tonight, so everybody got to see what we’ve seen and known for an entire season,” Coach Jay Johnson said.
It was a season high of five walks and two hit-by-pitches, but it all cancelled out because he threw the first complete shutout in the CWS Finals since 2018.
“Tip your hat to him. He’s a really good pitcher. There’s a reason he’s so successful. He has multiple pitches he can go to at any time,” Kevin Schnall, Coastal Carolina’s head coach said.
It was Anderson’s last game on the mound as a Tiger and he did it right.
For Coastal Carolina, right-handed pitcher Cameron Flukey had a stellar performance as well. He threw for six innings, nine strike outs, four hits and allowed the only run of the game.
The Chanticleers were never able to get enough momentum to score, leaving nine runners stranded.
“But ultimately I thought we played very well. We had runners on. We just weren’t able to get that big hit with runners in scoring position. Like I said, we were 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position tonight,” Schnall said.
“What’s eerily similar is in 2016, we lost Game 1, 3-0, a left-hand pitcher threw a complete-game shutout. Again, we’ve got to respond, rebound, regroup. We’ve got Jacob Morrison pitching tomorrow. Answer the bell,” Schnall said.
The two teams will face off again for Game Two at 1:30 P.M. on June 22.
