The 114th meeting between LSU and Ole Miss would bring a raucous sold out crowd to Vaught-Hemmingway Stadium for what was set up to be one of the best matchups of the year.
LSU would get on the board first after a tip-drill catch in the endzone from Oklahoma transfer Nic Anderson, but that would be one of the few bright spots for the LSU offense in what would quickly become an uphill battle.
Ole Miss would score twice in five minutes to end the first half, giving the Rebels a 17-7 lead heading into the break.
The Ole Miss defense would also remind the country of their dominance, holding LSU to only 258 yards of total offense in the game, and holding the LSU run game to less than three yards per carry.
On the offensive side Rebel running back Kewan Lacy would rush for 87 yards on 23 attempts with a touchdown, rushing for more yards than the entire LSU team.
Rebels quarterback Trinidad Chambliss would have another strong outing, racking up 385 yards of total offense and three passing touchdowns. The Ferris State transfer would control the Rebels offense and remove the threat of the LSU defense.
LSU would make it a five-point game after a Harlem Berry touchdown, but the defense would be unable to get a stop on the other end to give the LSU offense a chance, as Dae’Quan Wright would catch a wide-open pass in the flat on fourth down to seal the game for the Rebels.
With the 24-19 win Ole Miss improves to 5-0 (3-0 SEC) on the season, as they’ll take the week off before taking on Washington State.
LSU on the other hand drops their first game of the season and moves to 4-1 (1-1 SEC), and will also have an off week before welcoming the South Carolina Gamecocks to Tiger Stadium.
