LSU Baseball Head Coach Jay Johnson spoke to the media of LSU Baseball’s Fall Ball debut.
LSU is coming back with many holes on the roster as they lost multiple key pieces to the draft. Luckily for Coach Johnson, he is getting two of the best freshmen in college baseball last season.
Derek Curiel and Casan Evans go into their sophomore seasons and look to take LSU Baseball back to Omaha this summer.
Johnson says those two are immensely valuable to the team and the way they carry themselves rubs off on the team.
“[Derek] has the respect of his teammates because of how hard he plays and how competitive he is,” Johnson said. “Neither of them are over the top outgoing, but they do the right things.”
Coach Johnson said that this freshman class may not be the biggest, but the quality of players definitely makes up for the lack of numbers. It speaks to Johnson’s philosophy and the type of players he brings to play at LSU.
“They’re not allowed in the door if they don’t want to play beyond here because you have to have that burning desire to become the best that you can become to thrive in this dynamic of a program that we have going,” Coach Johnson said.
LSU baseball will continue Fall Ball with games inside Alex Box Stadium at 4 p.m. CT on Friday and 1:30 p.m. CT on Sunday.
