LSU Men’s Basketball Head Coach Matt McMahon spoke to the media following the 98-81 win over Florida International University (FIU).
McMahon starts by praising and commending his team on the win. He says that FIU challenged his team, and although they faced some adversity in the first half, they came out in the second half to finish the game off.
“Great win for the guys,” McMahon said. “I was glad we could face some adversity there in the first half. FIU has great speed and quickness on the perimeter that gave us some problems, but to come out of the gates in the second half with a great response and build the lead back to double figures and finish the game off, it was a good step for us. I’m glad we were challenged.”
One prime player to help build the lead back to double figures was 5th-year senior Guard Marquel Sutton. He ended the night with 19 points and 12 rebounds, earning his second double-double so far in the season. McMahon compliments Sutton on his performance and how he is an important part of winning on this team.
“His shot preparation is terrific,” McMahon said. “He shoots with a lot of confidence. We just had to have him on the floor tonight. He impacts winning in every phase of the game.”
With 2026 fastly approaching, so is signing for LSU Basketball. McMahon touches on his recruiting class and being ranked No.12 by ESPN.
“It’s with great excitement to officially welcome our 2026 recruiting class. It’s ESPN No.12 in the country. I’m really excited about the character, the versatility, the athleticism that we bring in with Marcus Vaughns at 6’8, Kevin Thomas at 6’7, and Herly Brutus at 6’6. They’re really going to fit everything that we’re trying to get accomplished as we continue to build the program.”
The Tigers will be back in the PMAC on Tuesday, Nov. 18, to face off against Alcorn State at 7 p.m.
