LSU offered safety tips for students, faculty and staff ahead of the approaching winter storm, instructing those both on and off campus on how to prepare.
The storm is expected to hit south Louisiana with rain and freezing temperatures leading to dangerous icy roads. Here’s how to remain safe in case of hazardous conditions.
On-campus advice
For students living on campus, the university recommends staying indoors as much as possible. Students should report any maintenance problems, including lack of heat or frozen pipes, to ResLife as soon as possible. Inside the dorms, the university advises students to avoid using space heaters or open flames.
Students should follow guidance from ResLife as updates are issued.
Dining halls will remain open during the storm, but students are advised to check LSU Dining’s website for any changes.
Overall safety
All students, faculty and staff are advised to remain indoors. If you must leave your home, be aware of slippery surfaces as a result of icy conditions and dress in warm layers. The university stresses budgeting extra for travel in the case of weather-related issues.
Students and staff should remain up to date with weather updates from the National Weather Service.
Will there be classes next week?
LSU announced campus will be closed on Monday, with classes held in whatever fashion determined by each instructor. The university did not comment on if there will be in-person classes on Tuesday, but it said students should continue monitoring official LSU communications for updates throughout the weekend.
