LSU Football Head Coach Lane Kiffin spoke to the media for the first time in 2026, right after the first team meeting.
With the No. 1 class in the transfer portal, Kiffin’s staff’s main focus was going for underclassmen, as they are looking to build a foundation for the future of the program.
“The thing that I can say that excites me even more is that we are just getting started and it will even get better. A lot of these players are young that we signed, this isn’t going to be a senior-led team that will have to be totally recreated next year.”
Coach Kiffin was asked about Lamar Brown’s commitment, the No. 1 recruit who signed before Kiffin joined the team.
“They still signed with LSU. That’s not because of Lane Kiffin, that’s not because of Frank Wilson, that’s the power of the place; they decide to sign instead of waiting because it was LSU. That’s one of the big reasons why we are here. When you have a place that does things like that, especially for Louisiana but in general nationally. To have that brand with you makes it different.”
Kiffin addressed the media on his recruitment style, as he is ready to do anything in his power to have the best players for his program.
“Everything that I do is for the place where I coach at. That school, those players and those fans. That’s why I am not very likable in other places. I’m hired here to sign the best players, regardless if I have to go get on a plane and show up somewhere, walk up in the Oxford airport to find my guy. That’s just how I work. No job is too small; you just have to find a way to get it done.”
Coach was asked about the excitement of LSU fans ever since he joined the program, as he has gotten the opportunity to be around Baton Rouge.
“I do sense it a lot. We’ve been out a lot around the community, which has been awesome here. It’s a reminder that we have a lot of work to do with this excitement, that goes really quick when the scoreboard doesn’t go right. It adds to the competitiveness in me. It is exciting to know and motivate others, saying, hey all of these people are excited; now let’s put the product together.”
