LSU Softball defeats Michigan State 9-0, finishing the game in the fifth inning. Jayden Heavener was on the mound for LSU and she pitched five innings giving up only three hits. She gave up no runs and struck out four.
LSU scored a run in each inning they played.
In the first inning, Jalia Lassiter got it started with a single to center field. Then Sierra Daniel hit a single and Lassiter advanced to third on a bad throw. Alix Franklin singled to short and Lassiter scored.
In the second inning, Char Lorenz walks, then Lassiter is hit by pitch. With runners on first and second, Daniel singled to left field and advanced to second on a fielding error. Lassiter moved to third and Lorenz scored. Score is now 2-0 LSU.
The third inning is where LSU did the most damage. Tori Edwards and Franklin would both walk. Then Ally Hutchins would reach first on a fielder’s choice. Bases loaded and Lorenz flies out to center and Tori Edwards scores.
Kylee Edwards would be walked and then Maddox McKee reaches base on a fielders choice and Franklin scores.
Lassiter would then fly out to right field and Hutchins would score. McKee would still second, then she advanced to third on a field error. Amongst the chaos, Edwards scores.
Daniel doubles to left, then Bergeron singles and advances to second on the throw. Daniel would come home to score. LSU would lead 8-0.
In the fourth, Franklin walks, then Hutchins is hit by pitch. Lorenz singles to third and runners advance.
Lassiter is hit by pitch and Hutchins scores. Lead is now 9-0 LSU. The Tigers would then close it out in the top of the fifth for the run-rule victory.
The Tigers will be back in action Saturday, February 21 to take on UL-Lafayette at 4 p.m. CT inside Tiger Park.
