LSU Gymnastics Head Coach Jay Johnson addressed the media following the team’s loss to the No.1 ranked Oklahoma Sooners. Though this loss may have been unfortunate to some it actually marked the highest score of the season with a 197.925.
“You go out there, you lose by two tenths, you get on a neutral floor and we get all guns blazing, we’ll be in a good spot.” Spoke Coach Clark when asked how the team plans to move forward.
The team heads into the week with two back to back meets within 48 hours. The Tigers will begin the series by hosting the No. 3 Alabama Crimson Tide and then close off the week with a Podium challenge.
Coach emphasized how much of a benefit the Podium challenge will be for the team as it resembles the same format as the SEC tournament.
“It’s really just another week and it gets to be a little bit of a dress rehearsal,” Spoke Clark.
With the SEC tournament rapidly approaching, fans are questioning whether to expect any changes in the lineup after a season of trial and error. With two injuries this past meet leaving Sophomores, Konnor McClain and Kaliya Lincoln both limited to the sidelines.
“Nobody that gets out there and goes for us is somebody that we don’t have confidence in” spoke Clark when questioned about the team’s confidence with these last minute changes to the lineup.
Coach Clark and his team are looking to improve in all areas of the scoresheet, most importantly on beam which they currently sit in the No.4 spot. The Tigers do not plan to make any changes to their preparation as it is a team standard to train and treat every opponent equally.
Jay Clark and the Fighting Tigers will be back in action this weekend as they host the Alabama Crimson Tide for another top 3 matchup February 27 on SEC Network. Following Friday’s meet, LSU will participate in a podium challenge at the Raising Canes River Center in Baton Rouge.
