LSU Beach Volleyball’s Saturday morning was a success after defeating Texas A&M – Kingsville on the second day of the Battle on the Bayou tournament, winning 5-0.
Starting on court four, the junior duo, Tatum Finlason and Skylar Martin had a strong offensive and defensive performance against TAMU’s side. While Finlason held a firm defensive wall to help push the ball into the air, Martin was able to attack with a striking spike shot to help gain points for the Tigers and ending with a 21-15 victory.
The Javelina duo kept up a structured defense and tried to find pockets to strike against the Tigers at the beginning of the match. However, Gracey Campbell and Emily Hellmuth were able to build momentum and execute powerful shots behind the players.
Moving to court six, Emma Daugherty and Kastyn Hoffman gave the Javelinas a successful start to the match. However, the Tigers eventually grew into the match and were able to come back and win on their court.
Bella Lagemann and Aubrey O’Gorman also had a great game on their court. Their consistent jumbo shots challenged the Javelinas defense as Lagemann was reaching and hitting all the angles on the court. Additionally, O’Gorman’s technique to stay close to the net helped the Tigers to urgently strike their shots.
The Tigers had a strong start to the tournament after defeating both Central Arkansas and Texas A&M – Corpus Christian 5-0 on Friday.
They will face Southeastern Louisiana Saturday at 4:45 p.m. for their last game in the Battle on the Bayou tournament.
