The LSU baseball team picked up a mid-week victory Tuesday night against the UNO Privateers by a score of 10-7.
This win comes after LSU got swept by Texas A&M which made the teams postseason dreams more farfetched. Additionally, LSU received news that junior outfielder Jake Brown will be missing the rest of the season with an injury.
With both of these things stacked against LSU in this match up, the team still found a way to prevail despite a slow start as they were trailing 4-2 in the fifth inning. But this is where the tide changed.
LSU went on to score seven runs in the fifth, mostly while having two outs. This timely hitting is some of the best coach Jay Johnson has seen in his time on the diamond.
“I don’t remember getting four, two-out hits in a row in a long time. Like I’m not talking about this year, I’m talking about any year. It was awesome.”
Another big spark for the Tigers in this Louisiana matchup was the freshman. Three freshmen were in the starting line up (Omar Serna, Jack Ruckert and William Patrick) and all of them contributed as they were a combined 4-9.
These freshmen will look to continue to contribute as LSU’s next opponent is a familiar foe, Mississippi State. They will take on the Bulldogs in Starkville in a must-win three game set beginning on Friday.
