LSU Baseball took a trip down the bayou on Tuesday to Thibodaux, Louisiana, where they faced off against Nicholls State University at Ray Didier Field.
The Colonels held the Tigers scoreless through six innings, entering the seventh with a 3-0 lead. That’s when everything fell apart for Nicholls as the Tigers put up a five-spot to go up 5-3. With an RBI single from shortstop Steven Milam and two 2-run singles from right fielder Jake Brown and center fielder Chris Stanfield, the Tigers simply exploded in the seventh.
Freshman right-handed pitcher William Schmidt entered the game to shut down the Colonels. He refused to give them anything, allowing no hits, just two walks and ringing up eight strikeouts.
LSU improved their record to 31-3 on the season. The Tigers will be back on the diamond on Friday when they head to The Plains for a three-game series against No. 11 Auburn.
