Thursday afternoon, Head Coach Brian Kelly spoke to the media about LSU’s upcoming game against Vanderbilt.
When asked about Whit Weeks, Jimari Butler, and Aaron Anderson being available for Saturday’s early game, Kelly quickly responded with their game plan on the list of questionable players.
“We are game-time decisioning, they are making progress, we are seeing that there is a chance that these guys can be ready on Saturday,” Kelly stated.
Wide Receiver Aaron Anderson sat out against South Carolina this past weekend due to his recurring knee injury. He has also been suffering from toe and elbow injuries stemming from the loss against Ole Miss.
“Like Aaron, we worked him out in pregame, and he was just okay; he wasn’t explosive, and I don’t want to put a guy out on the field that can’t help us. We aren’t going to put him in that situation, so we think we have a little bit more time. We are less than 48 hours out, but we feel like we want to wait before game time,” Kelly mentioned.
During the South Carolina game, there were some issues with the offense, suffering multiple interceptions and a fumble in the end zone.
After recent struggles with the offense converting their third downs, Kelly gave some insight into the recent modifications they have been making.
“The real challenge here is first down and second down, and making sure that when they get the third down, it’s more than third and short,” Kelly said.
In the earliest kick off this season, LSU will take on Vanderbilt at 11:00 AM on Saturday. After getting asked how the team’s 11:00 AM workouts were going, Kelly seemed to show his confidence in the team, making the effort to get situated to the time game time change.
“I think it’s good to get into a routine like this, get them up in the morning, which will be similar to the same time that they will be getting up on Saturday. We will do this again tomorrow; it’s not like we haven’t done it, but we haven’t done it since camp. You want to get back into that routine so it isn’t ‘Wow this is different for me, ’” Kelly stated.
With earlier practices that focus on getting open and fixing conversions on third-and-longs, LSU and Vanderbilt should have a competitive game ahead of them in the early morning in Nashville this Saturday.
