The LSU Men’s Basketball team defeated Florida International University (FIU) 98-81 Thursday night in the PMAC.
With this win, the men’s team is on a three-game winning streak, advancing to 3-0 while FIU has fallen to 1-2.
Although the first five minutes of the game were a slow start, the Tigers began to pick up steam, distancing themselves from the Panthers. Still, with seven costly turnovers and missed opportunities for threes, the Tigers and the Panthers were neck and neck throughout the first half, but the Tigers were able to pull away for the last two minutes, ending the first half with the lead 43-38.
After the half, the Tigers’ offense starts hot, scoring 17 unanswered points. Although the Panthers finally started to click on the offensive side of the ball, the Tigers kept up their momentum, ending the night off with a win.
5th year senior Guard Marquel Sutton and junior Guard Mike Nwoko both led the team in scoring with 19 points. Sutton also ended the night with 12 rebounds, making this his second game with a double-double.
Senior Guard Max Mackinnon ended the night with 17 points and three assists, while junior guard Dedan Thomas Jr. ended his night with 15 points and six assists.
LSU may have won, but they struggled all night to shoot from distance as they went 4-of-17 (23.5%) from the three-point line.
They’ll be looking to improve this as they take on Alcorn State in the PMAC on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m.
