LSU Men’s Basketball forwards Marquel Sutton and Pablo Tamba spoke to reporters after a 91-62 loss to the No. 21 Arkansas Razorbacks.
Sutton led the Tigers in scoring with 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals. Pablo Tamba was not too far behind with 11 points and 7 rebounds, a key role for the LSU offensive in Tuesday’s matchup.
The Razorbacks came into Baton Rouge with the agenda to dominate, and that is what happened in Tuesday’s game, which was unfortunate for the Fighting Tigers as they now sit 2-10 in SEC play.
After losing by only 4 points in the first matchup, the Tigers were really looking forward to showing improvement and starting off strong for Tuesday’s game. That, unfortunately, was not the case for the Tigers, as they got off to an extremely slow start that they seemed to have never recovered from.
Pablo Tamba spoke on the previous matchup in comparison to Tuesday and stated, “I think at their place we were much more aggressive and confident in that area. I think that what was missing today for sure.”
LSU came out onto the floor really struggling with their offensive drives, which allowed the Razorbacks to gain a double-digit lead within the first five minutes of gameplay. Arkansas was in the lead by 42-27 at the half, resulting in LSU losing their momentum and not having the ability to get back in the game, struggling both inside and outside the arc.
The biggest struggle of the night was in the paint for LSU, as they struggled with their defense, even allowing Arkansas to put up 64 total points in the paint.
Forward Marquel Sutton added, “Like Pablo said, beating us off the dribble. We were working on them cutting from the corner and the 45 cuts. They got a couple of those.”
LSU is looking to pick up the pieces as a team and make a recovery on offense while missing important starters due to injury.
The Fighting Tigers will be on the road against the Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville, Tennessee, for a Valentine’s Day SEC matchup at 5 p.m. CT.
